Relive, photograph, and immerse yourself in local Civil War history
Duration:
2.5 hours
About The Experience:
Board your train at Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) at 3pm for a steam-powered ride through the pine forests, farmlands and hamlets of the Sheepscot Valley to Alna Center. There, the 3rd Maine Infantry Company A will join our select group for a series of scenes and “run-bys” along the railway, including an extended stay at the encampment for a special presentation on Civil War history. The train itself will be representative of the Kennebec Central railroad, which often carried Civil War veterans to and from reunions and reenactments in nearby Togus, Maine.
Passengers are strongly encouraged to dress in vintage style clothing. The special will return to Sheepscot at approximately 5:30pm.
While all are welcome, this excursion is tailored for photographers and history buffs looking for an in-depth, immersive experience. Seating on this special train will be limited. We invite those with mobility issues to consider the 11am and 1pm departures instead of this train.
We look forward to seeing you on the narrow gauge!
About 3rd Maine Infantry Company A:
Fighting for the Union since 1861! Company A, 3rd Maine Regiment Volunteer Infantry is a nonprofit educational and living history organization dedicated to preserving the memory of Maine’s role in the American Civil War. Through living history events, battle reenactments, and educational presentations they work to teach others about what life was like for Maine soldiers and civilians during the years 1861 – 1865. They also strive to serve as a living memorial to all of the people who gave their lives during the War, and in doing so gave us these United States of America.
