- **Event Description**: Residents of the “Old Soldier’s Home” invite you to ride their narrow gauge connection.

Board your train at Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) for a 75 minute steam-powered ride through the pine forests, farmlands and hamlets of the Sheepscot Valley to Trout Brook. After a short layover to allow the locomotive to “run-around” the train, we’ll double-back to Alna Center for a historic surprise!

At Alna Center, the 3rd Maine Infantry Company A will be set up where you can experience living history demonstrations, infantry drill and other Civil War talks and displays. After our layover at the Civil War encampment, we’ll return back to Sheepscot station where you’ll want to explore our railyard, examine our displays, and peruse our gift shop.

Ticket price includes the steam train ride, admission to the soldier’s encampment, as well as parking at Sheepscot.

Historical Connection to Maine’s Two-Footers
Be apart of history as we remember the Maine Two Foot Railroad that cared for the veterans of the American Civil War, 95 years on. Even though none of Maine’s unique narrow gauges operated at the time of the Civil War, one played a role in taking care of its veterans. The Kennebec Central was built in 1890 with its primary purpose of serving the National Solders Home of Togus, Maine. Before being purchased by the WW&F, locomotive 9 served as Kennebec Central 4 and proudly carried Civil War veterans to and from town, and even to their own reenactments!
