Gather with people from different SEQ faith communities on World Humanitarian Day to pray for Palestinians — especially starving children — in Gaza, including for:
• an end to the genocide in Gaza*
• immediate and unimpeded flow of all aid, including food, water and medical**
• an end to the killing of Palestinians seeking food and water aid**
• an arms embargo*
• an end to the occupation in Palestine^
• a just peace, with self-determination for Palestinian people#.
Please bring:
• friends, colleagues and family members (children are welcome)
• open hearts.
LED candles and glow sticks will be provided.
This is a vigil especially for those more comfortable with prayer or reflection rather than rallying/marching — please leave signage/banners at home (those who gather will be invited to sign the "Praying for Gaza" banner).
The vigil will commence at 6pm.
In the case of wet weather, an alternative venue will be announced.
Those who do not practise a faith/spirituality are warmly encouraged to join in.
Between Monday, 18/8 and Wednesday 20/8, the names of 17,000 (known) children killed in Gaza will be read by inter-faith leaders, healthcare workers, journalists, educators and other community leaders.
