WINTER MAGNIFICENCE

Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus presents two exhilarating works in the dying days of winter.
John Rutter’s Magnificat, “My soul magnifies the Lord”, is a joyful hymn of triumph of the downtrodden over the powerful. The work is full of glorious melodies and rich harmonies. Delicate soprano solos are balanced by robust energetic choruses with strong rhythmic drive. We are delighted to celebrate the beloved English composer’s eightieth year with this rarely performed masterpiece.
In Psalm Notebook, contemporary Latvian composer Valts Pūce magnifies the Latin text of four psalms, including Psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd”. His music is influenced by cultural and popular themes, making it immediately engaging for listeners. We are excited to present the Australian premiere of this intriguing new work.
