A long-form performance installation by mutli-disciplinary light artist, House of Vnholy at City of Adelaide's ART POD.
A series of sculptural interventions exploring utopian fantasy through post-modern performance. A collaboration between prominent Adelaide artists House of Vnholy (Matthew Adey), Messianic Gloss, Capital Waste Pictures, Miles Dunne, and Jazmine Deng, as well as Naarm's extreme metal vocalist Karina Utomo and Marcus Ian McKenzie, collectively explore topical and personal ideologies of ecstatic utopias through transformative light and video installations, sound, live camera, and improvised performance. A ménage of modern day community exploring the outer limits of their utopian dreamscapes, meditating on science fiction fantasies of utopia, dystopia and an environment we will all inevitably navigate.
As part of City of Adelaide’s ART POD Residency, House of Vnholy will build abstract hype that hints towards a happening. A series of screens installed in the ART POD windows from 18 June will flash images of large type which will communicate a synthesised utopian happening that crescendo into a performance on 05 July as part of Illuminate Adelaide. Micro-world dystopian dioramas, filmed by Capital Waste Pictures, will become the backdrop of a performance projected into the Meeting Hall across from ART POD. Live feed cameras will capture and contribute to a performance by multi-disciplinary artists that will layer on top of the dystopian diorama images. The performers will push and pull a large light sculpture around the Meeting Hall, finally delivering it to ART POD where the performance will live on through the installed screens until late August.
