This August, SA Light Opera brings you something a little bit different (or maybe a lot!), the award-winning musical comedy –
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum !

A Broadway favourite since 1962, revived multiple times, FORUM is a classic farce with all of the rib-tickling shenanigans of slamming doors, mistaken identities, disguises, schemes gone wrong, slapstick chases, and thwarted love; and peopled with the usual array of caricatures: the hen-pecked husband, the shrewish wife, the naive young girl, her excessively romantic beau, the scheming servant, the befuddled old man, not to mention a half a dozen tarts-with-a-heart-of-gold! Plus, this is all performed with songs by one of Broadway’s all-time greats, Stephen Sondheim (known for many other great shows including West Side Story, Gypsy, Into the Woods, Merrily We Roll Along, A Little Night Music, Follies and Do I hear a Waltz?)
The big difference?
It all takes place in the Second Century BC, in a street in ancient Rome, just a few blocks from The Forum!
The players include some new faces and a few familiar ones, with Terry Crowe as Pseudolus, Josh van't Padje as Hysterium, Carmine Clarke as Domina, Peter Dewar as Senex, Olivia Tod as Philia, Zachary Baseby as Hero, James Hanna as Miles, Aled Proeve as Lycus, and John Broadley as Erronius, joined by several others including Sandra Fameli, Vince Fameli, Cher O'Brien, Wendy Williams, Kirsty Radestock, Alice Krang, Sage Jeffery, Sue Whittaker, Torin Hill, and Emma Dredge.
FORUM is directed by Harry Dewar, with Musical Director Kate White once again leading our orchestra and cast for the memorable music of Steven Sondheim.
So, take a couple of hours break from our own troubled times in August and laugh yourself silly at some crazy nonsense that never really happened in …
