Opening with Shostakovich’s exhilarating Festive Overture, a whirlwind of dazzling orchestral brilliance, the concert bursts forth with joy. The pace intensifies with Zoom by Jack Frerer, a kinetic and electrifying work that propels listeners through its vibrant textures. Márquez’s beloved Danzón No. 2 invites the audience to bask in the elegance and passion of traditional latin American dance rhythms. Finally, Omar Thomas’s powerful Come Sunday offers a soulful and reverent tribute to the Black church, blending gospel and jazz influences into a heartfelt finale.
