Sensual Bachata
Bachata is a beautifully sensual partner dance that originated in the countryside of the Dominican Republic, evolving from the pan-Latin romantic style bolero. It gained worldwide popularity thanks to its emotional themes of love, heartbreak, and longing. Over time, it absorbed influences from merengue and various Latin guitar traditions.
The music is usually slower and simpler than salsa, but it still allows for a wide variety of patterns, turns, and creative combinations.
This class is open to all — no dance background needed!
We focus on different styles of Bachata, especially Sensual and Moderna. Each week, new partner combinations will be introduced with attention to body rhythm, styling, and execution.
General topics include:
Basic Bachata steps: forward and back step, side steps, openings, and partner holds
Body movement techniques: hip work for ladies, shoulder movement for men
Introduction to turns: right and left turns, variations in leading, half turns, full spins, and multiple spins
Emphasis on footwork, rhythm, musicality, and timing
Lead & follow technique
Partner work combinations
Styling for both women and men
