Silvopasture and Brush Management: Tools, Techniques and Economics

Featuring local experts in woodland management, this field day is designed for land owners and managers who find themselves struggling to manage invasive woodland brush.

We’ll start at the Oak Savanna Learning Center with a presentation by UMN Adjunct Agroforestry and Economics Professor Dean Current, who will overview the economics of long-term woodlands management. Then we head out for a tour led by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Cody Carlstrom of Refuge sites where shrub management techniques like fire, cutting and cattle have been deployed, followed by SFA Silvopasture consultant Bryan Simon who will explain how goats fit into the mix (Yes — you will get to see some goats during the tour). Then we’ll head back to the Learning Center for lunch and an opportunity to ask our presenters questions and share thoughts and observations with each other.
