MEETING LOCATION and TIME – A NEW MEETING LOCATION
• We will meet at a site on Highway 260, between Payson and Heber, known as the Mogollon Rim Visitors Center.
• We will meet at 9:30 a.m.
• Plan on about 2 hours travel time from Apache Junction.
• From Apache Junction travel north-east on Highway 87 approximately 75 miles to Payson.
• In the center of Payson, at the intersection of Highway 87 and Highway 260 (next to McDonalds), turn right onto Highway 260.
• On Highway 260 travel approximately 30 miles to mile marker 282.
• About 2 blocks past mile marker 282 turn right into the parking lot for the Mogollon Rim Visitors Center.
• GPS coordinates for the Visitors Center are 34.302093, -110.896182.
• There is a restroom at the Visitors Center, or you can stop in Payson if needed.
UNLIMITED PARTICIPATION
• There is no limit to the number of people who can go.
• This field trip will be a great experience for friends and family.
WHAT WILL BE COLLECTED
• Everyone who goes will be able to collect plenty of fossils.
• It has been reported that rare trilobites have been found at this site.
• There are many square miles of unexplored area next to the fossil site.
• Hopefully we will find much more than fossils.
VEHICLE INFORMATION
• Any vehicle will make it to the meeting location and the field trip site.
• Some of the forest roads and additional hunting sites near the field trip site might require the use of jeeps, side-by-sides, or quads.
RECOMMENDED THINGS TO TAKE
Club badge, basic rock collecting tools, buckets, trash grabber, hammer, chisel, knee pads, water, lunch.
FIELD TRIP FEES
$5 for adult club members, $10 for adult guests, and no charge for all youth under 18.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS TO THE FIELD TRIP SITE (Just in case you arrive late)
• Directions will begin at the Mogollon Rim Visitors Center on Highway 260.
• From the Visitors Center travel east (towards Heber) on Highway 260 for approximately 2 ½ miles.
• Turn right (south) onto the Young Road, and travel 11.6 miles.
• Turn left (east) onto Forest Road 103, and travel .7 (seven tenths) mile.
• You have arrived.
