FIELD TRIP LOCATION
• The R-C (R Bar C) Scout Ranch is one of several scout camps owned by the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
• It is located on 78 acres of private land about 20 miles east of Payson on Highway 260.
• The street address of the R-C Scout Ranch is 19887 E. Highway 260.
MEETING LOCATION and TIME
• The meeting location for this field trip will be at the R-C Scout Ranch.
• We will meet at the entrance to the Scout Ranch at 9:30 a.m.
• If you arrive at the Scout Ranch before the Field Trip Leaders, then please wait near the entrance until the trip leaders arrive.
• Directions to the Scout Ranch are given below.
UNLIMITED PARTICIPATION
• There is no limit to the number of people who can go.
• This field trip will be a great experience for friends and family.
WHAT WILL BE COLLECTED
• The boy scouts have been too busy earning merit badges to hunt for rocks, and everyone will find plenty of zebra agate.
• Fossils are also found at the site.
VEHICLE INFORMATION
Any vehicle will make it to the meeting location and the field trip site.
RECOMMENDED THINGS TO TAKE
Club badge, basic rock collecting tools, buckets, trash grabber, small shovel, hammer, chisel, knee pads, water, lunch
FIELD TRIP FEES
• The club fees are $5 for adult club members, $10 for adult guests, and $0 for all youth under 18.
• The Grand Canyon Council of the Boys Scouts of America usually charges a “day use fee” of $6 per person, but the Grand Canyon Council has agreed to only bill a group fee of $100 no matter how many people show up. This day use fee will be covered by our club.
A FRIENDLY SUGGESTION
• There is a new ranger (caretaker) at the Scout Ranch, and we want to make a good impression on him so that we will be welcome when we return in the future.
• We ask that some of you voluntarily offer a small gift to the ranger. Gifts can include polished rocks, crystals, home-made bread, cookies, cupcakes, etc.
• These gifts are not a requirement to go on the field trip.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS TO THE R-C SCOUT RANCH
• Start in the center of Payson at the intersection of Highway 87 and Highway 260 (next to McDonalds).
• Turn right (east) onto Highway 260, and travel approximately 20 miles.
• About half way between mile marker 271 and mile marker 272 you will see the entrance to the R-C Scout Ranch on your right.
