Meet at the Taco Bell at the above address.
FIELD TRIP GENERAL LOCATION
Forest Road 195 is located in the Tonto National Forest, about 12 miles north-east of Payson.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE SITE
• At the site there is a 90 year old Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp.
• There are also several forest roads next to the old camp that we have never explored in the past.
MEETING LOCATION and TIME
• The meeting location in Payson is located at the intersection of Highway 87 and Highway 260.
• We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot next to Taco Bell.
• The street address for Taco Bell is 110 Highway 260.
UNLIMITED PARTICIPATION
We only need a small exploratory group, but there is no limit to the number of people who can go.
WHAT COULD BE COLLECTED
• Because this is an exploratory trip we have no idea what we will find.
• In the same general area in the past we have found quartz crystals, geodes, agate, chert, flint, and fossils.
• At the old CCC camp there is a possibility of finding old coins and antiques.
VEHICLE INFORMATION
• Any vehicle will make it to the meeting location, and all vehicles will easily make it to within a mile of the field trip site.
• The last mile, and some of the unexplored forest roads, will require higher profile vehicles.
• THE RECOMMENDED VEHICLES FOR THIS EXPLORATORY TRIP ARE JEEPS, SIDE-BY-SIDES, QUADS, OR OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES.
COMMUNICATION DURING THE FIELD TRIP
• During the field trip there is a good chance we will be separated into 3 smaller groups.
• We recommend you take a small hand-held short-range radio so that we can keep in touch with each other.
• Plan on using channel 15.
RECOMMENDED THINGS TO TAKE
Club badge, basic rock collecting tools, buckets, communication radio, trash grabber, shovel, metal detector (if you have one), water, lunch.
