Join us for an evening of storytelling: Native Tongue: Migration Stories.
Picture yourself in the customs line, unpacking a coconut broom, a buk na kakailai, poi balls, a stash of biltong, sulus, jars of pickled treats, and treasured family jewels. There’s a dollop of joy, we leave behind pain, bring some secrets, and pack our hopes and dreams alongside Grandma’s beloved kiwi biscuit recipe.
What do we bring with us? What do we leave behind? How did we get here?
This spoken word performance features Vanessa Gordon’s poetry and showcases diverse storytellers sharing real-life tales of their journeys to Brisbane. From European roots to the South Pacific, Sri Lanka, parts of Africa, and Aotearoa, their experiences illuminate our shared journey.
With humor and soul, discover how their unique paths intersect while celebrating vibrant cultures. Let’s connect through these powerful stories and our shared humanity.
