Imagine singing story songs together with vocals, guitar and whistles in a cosy living room with squashy armchairs. Welcome to a concert with Sarah Calderwood and Paul Brandon. Sarah and Paul are an acoustic duo that cross the roads of roots and folk, wander through world music and Celtic and revisit modern songs with their own arrangements. Often praised for their capacity to sound new and old at once, they anchor their music in the space where tradition and innovation intertwine.
Jumping Fences
Jumping Fences’ songs traverse working lives, migration and exile, and everyday hopes and joys. Their long association with Latin American music resonates deeply in their own compositions. They toured to Cuba in 2017 and 2018, and nationally they have performed at numerous festivals and venues in South-East Queensland and Victoria. They have composed songs for choirs and conducted workplace songwriting and performance projects in association with the Qld Council of Unions. Jumping Fences have released six recordings, most recently ‘Woolloongabba’. You can listen to a selection of songs on Spotify, YouTube or Apple Music.
