Remaining Native Yerington Free Community Screening (Sunday, July 13)

The Yerington Rotary Club and the Yerington Movie House are thrilled to announce a FREE community screening of the award-winning feature documentary film , a coming-of-age story told through the perspective of Kutoven Stevens, a 17 year old, Native American runner from the Yerington Paiute reservation navigating college athletics while the memory of his great-grandfather’s 50-mile escape from the Stewart Indian School begins to connect past, present, and future.

The film just had its World Premiere at SXSW winning two awards: the Special Jury Award and the Audience Award in the feature documentary competition. It also recieved a Special Jury Mention for Cinematography at the Dallas International Film Festival and the Emergeing Documentary Jury Award at Milwaukee Film Festival.

The screening will begin promptly at 2:00 PM with a Q&A following the screening with Kutoven Stevens. Doors open at 1:50 PM.

CONTENT WARNING:

This film contains references to violence, sexual abuse against children, and systemic institutional abuse as it pertains to Indian boarding schools. There will be space for mental health support and decompression following the screening.
