Join us for a day of inquiry, dialogue, and understanding as we honor the groundbreaking legacy of Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray—a visionary lawyer, poet, Episcopal priest, and civil rights activist whose ideas shaped both the women’s and civil rights movements.
The symposium begins with a screening of the acclaimed documentary "My Name Is Pauli Murray" in Room 201 of the Arts & Sciences Building followed by a light lunch and discussion in Herndon Gallery. The afternoon continues with a thought-provoking panel exploring Murray’s enduring impact on race, gender, and justice. Panelists are:
• Anjalique Abernathy [she/they] serves as Director of Education & Outreach at the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice in Durham, North Carolina, where they develop programs and curricula that bring Murray’s legacy to life for new generations.
• Serena Mayeri [she/her] is the Arlin M. Adams Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. Her scholarship explores how social movements—including feminist and civil rights efforts—shape constitutional and legal change. She has written expensively on Pauli Murray.
• Miriam McKenney [she/her] is Missioner for Beloved
Community for the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio and also serves as Director of the Mission Forward Movement where she leads racial healing and dismantling-racism education efforts.
The symposium is free and open to all.
