A series of 3 workshops inspired by Paul Joyce's approach to painting social memories of the Second World War. We will look at a different aspect of his themes and inspiration in each workshop. Participants will have guidance on selecting from a range of images or can bring their own to create a highly colorized version of a black and white photograph of a scene.
We will work within the same constraints as Paul Joyce in painting landscape, vehicles or buildings, without people.
1. Theme: From the Air. Landscape, fields of Oxfordshire.
2. Theme: About Machines: Cowley Works, factories, wreckage or grounded planes.
3. Theme: In the Streets: Houses, buildings, partly fallen, partly standing proud.
Each one will look at relevant Paul Joyce paintings and his sources and inspiration.
Tutor: Local artist Anita Joice. Anita recently led the Soldiers of Oxfordshire's workshop programme based on a creative responses to the Holocaust to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Bergen-Belsen
