About the event

Wanderer Magazine Issue 9 + dust Sky is Falling Launch Party
In collaboration with Rad, we’re hosting our Wanderer Magazine Issue 9 Launch Party, while our Newcastle friends dust celebrate the launch of their album Sky is Falling, and it’s all happening right here in our Bellambi warehouse. A night of post-punk and experimental garage rock is in store.

Wanderer Magazine–to those who may be unfamiliar–is an independent print magazine celebrating and spotlighting creative youth and emerging projects. Established as a high school project, Wanderer has more than 6 years of Magazines and launch parties behind us.

Dan Radburn of RAD features as one of the contributors, so it only felt right to team up and make this launch party one for the ages. RAD stems from Dan’s days as founder of RADbar, an iconic venue in Wollongong that was not only a live music venue, but also forged a community for people of all ages and interests.

Here’s how you know it’ll be good:

Headlining the launch is dust, who are celebrating the launch of their debut album Sky is Falling. Formed in 2020 on Awabakal land/Newcastle, dust leads the pack when it comes to bringing a fresh, progressive take on Australian post-punk. The ban–dual guitarist-vocalists Gabriel Stove and Justin Teale, bassist Liam Smith, guitarist/saxophonist Adam Ridgway, and drummer Kye Cherry–merge experimental jazz, electronica, and post-punk urgency into a sound as immediate as Inhaler or Violent Soho. Influenced as much by Yung Lean and Burial as their punk peers, dust thrive in the in-between: shaped by Newcastle’s distance from major city scenes, caught between normalcy and uncertainty, and inspired across the Pacific.

Chimers are in the mix–who formed in Wollongong during the first lockdown of 2020, the project of singer-guitarist Padraic Skehan and drummer Binx. The pair first met in Dublin, where a two-week holiday became two years, ultimately leading Padraic to relocate to Australia in 2001. Out of pandemic isolation came a new chapter: Padraic stepping from drummer in Wollongong’s garage scene to frontman, songwriter, and guitarist. Together, he and Binx forged a sound rooted in noise pop, post-punk, and garage rock—discordant guitars, offbeat drums, and brash, melodic vocals. Drawing influence from Mission of Burma, Wipers, and Dischord Records, Chimers deliver raw, uncompromising energy.

With support from Chris Frape AKA Max Bond, long-time friend of Wanderer who also happens to be an incredible party starter with his vinyl DJ selections.

We are proudly sponsored for this event by our friends at Seeker, Heaps Normal & at Tommy’s Booze. We cannot wait!

The event will take place at NEBULA — the creative space as part of Buckaroo Leatherworks. We will be taking over the outdoor car park to bring in the summer energy! *All ages are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

WHICH WAY NOW

Wanderer Magazine Issue 9: Which Way Now is focused on conversations about your early-to-mid-twenties–a time in our lives we find ourselves currently in. It’s a time we’re constantly pulled in every direction–the divide between work, life and art. You’ll soon be reading insightful conversations with people who inspire us about how they got to where they are, and Which Way Now…
