Continuing the McMillan tradition of opening our stage to local and regional authors, we will host three talented writers through the next few months.
- Dean Robbins
In a new essay collection, Wisconsin Idols: 100 Heroes Who Changed the State, the World, and Me, author Dean Robbins offers a unique perspective on the prominent figures—past and present—who have left an indelible mark on the Badger State and beyond.
- Heather Kerrigan
Author Heather Kerrigan will talk about her new book, Beer, Brats & Cheese. Although Wisconsin foodways contain much more than beer, brats, and cheese, these remain at the pinnacle of the state’s fame—and rightly so. If you live in Wisconsin—or have simply visited—you know it’s hard to imagine tailgating, graduating, or celebrating without the Big Three.
- Rebecca Webster
In Defense of Sovereignty tells the story of the Oneida Nation’s struggles for self-determination. Since the removal of the Oneida people from New York in the 1820s to what would become Wisconsin, the Nation has been engaged in legal conflicts to retain its sovereignty and its lands. Legal scholar and former Oneida Nation senior staff attorney Rebecca M. Webster traces this history, including the Nation’s treaties with the US but focusing especially on its relationship with the village of Hobart, Wisconsin.
