STONE CARVING SKILLS; WORKING WITH GEOMETRY & PATTERN
Sunday 12 October 10.00 am – 4.30 pm
£130 including refreshments throughout & lunch, all materials, use of equipment on the day, tutoring & certificate of completion.
This one day workshop with our guest stone mason, Mark Evans, will offer a simple introduction to stone as a material and to the hand tools used in carving.
Mark will teach students how to set out an achievable geometric design and cut a relief carving on an approx. 10-inch square piece of Portland limestone using a traditional dummy hammer and stone carving chisels.
Not only a hands on experience but one that might offer a fresh way of looking at stone work in cathedral, historic buildings and even in the high street.
This STONE CARVING - WORKING WITH GEOMETRY & PATTERN workshop is held in a dedicated covered, outside space in the peaceful setting of our Blended Monkey studios in the cottage gardens of our home on the Cambs/Norfolk border.
The stone carving workshops are suitable for everyone (14+ accompanied by an adult). There is a degree of arm strength and the ability to stand for periods of time required.
We also offer accommodation in the form of our Crafter's Retreat cabin subject to availability or we can advise of other local B&Bs.
All students will be provided with a certificate of completion.
