Winnipeg Mandolin Orchestra Annual Concert

In its 104th year, the WMO is pleased to present our annual concert on May 10th with guest artist, Sam Baardman, a member of the orchestra. Joining Sam will be Susan Israel on fiddle and Corey Ticknor, a past member of the orchestra.

The orchestra will play a variety of music premiering two new pieces:

The second movement of the Concerto for Accordion by Nikolai Chaikin; Arkan, a traditional Ukrainian dance arranged for us by Slava Prysiazhniuk, who plays viola in the orchestra, and is the assistant conductor.

We received a new arrangement of music from Zorba the Greek from our sister orchestra in Toronto. The soundtrack of the 1964 award-winning film is very suitable for mandolins as there is a close relationship to the Greek bouzouki.
