Join us for a unique guided walk through the Exchange District as we follow the path water takes from southern Manitoba to Hudson Bay. In celebration of Ocean Week, this immersive experience highlights the vital connections between communities in the south and our Arctic coastline in the north.
Participants will embody the journey of water as it flows through the Lake Winnipeg Watershed and into the Hudson Bay drainage basin. This event will be led by our CPAWS Environmental Education Manager and Conservation Campaign Manager.
Along the way, they will lead us through key points that represent stages in this journey, offering space for storytelling, reflection, and knowledge sharing.
We're pleased to partner with the Manitoba Museum, and encourage participants to take advantage of Free Entry for First Fridays before and after the walk!
The interpretation tour traces the journey of water through the Lake Winnipeg Watershed, beginning with an introduction to its vast and complex system. It explores the widespread influence of the Mississippi River, followed by the critical confluence of the Red, Seine, and Assiniboine Rivers in Winnipeg. The tour continues to Lake Winnipeg, then flows through the Nelson River, highlighting how these waterways shape the landscape and affect local communities. It concludes at Hudson Bay, emphasizing the watershed’s connection to a broader environmental and cultural system.
Come walk with us at this family-friendly event to explore the deep connections between water, land, and community.
