Sunday is Parent’s Day and we are taking a look at a message titled “Sez Who.” Our scripture references come from the Gospel’s of Matthew, Mark, and Luke where Jesus spoke of children. We all have heard the song “Jesus Loves Me” a simple song yet filled with meaning. Jesus loved the little children and He put a tremendous responsibility on us as parents to raise them properly.
If you attend church regularly that’s great but if not this is a wonderful weekend to invite your children to attend or children invite your parents to attend. Go as a family and worship God is spirit and in truth. If you do not have a church I invite you to join us at 9:30 at 2704 South Highway W in Foley that’s at the corner of Highways W and Y. Coffee will be on at 8:30.
Check out our website at asburychapel.org to see more about us and what we believe. Our worship is contemporary, dress is casual, and we are welcoming.
I have attached our message notes for Sunday as we stream our service live on Facebook.
“Sez Who”
Matthew 19, Mark 9, Luke 182
*** Honoring Parents:
Jesus explicitly commanded, "Honor your father and mother," in the context of keeping the commandments and loving one's neighbor.
The key to any society being stable is the respect of parents by their children. It is the beginning of the respect for civil authority.
*** Showing Love and Care for parents:
Jesus' actions also demonstrated a deep love and care for his parents, even while dying on the cross when he asked a disciple to care for his mother.
*** Prioritizing God:
“Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother,"
*** Consequences of Neglect:
Verses like 1 Samuel 3:13 and Proverbs 29:15 suggest that bad parents can bring disgrace and even divine judgment upon their households.
*** Desiring God:
Once the boundaries were established, there was freedom for individual personalities to grow and develop.
