AoD Presents…. West Coast Swing (WCS)!!
💃🏽🪩🕺🏾
As a partner dance, WCS is unique because of the influence that both leaders and followers have on shaping the dance through communication and connection. Also, WCS uniquely combines technique and structure with opportunities for improvisation and creativity. Once you understand and can implement the foundational techniques and rhythms, there are many ways to integrate artistic expression that can draw on a variety of dance styles.
Some call WCS “the dancer’s dance” because of the way that it provides opportunities to blend and incorporate other dance styles, including hip hop, zouk, and other forms of swing, such as lindy hop. WCS can also be danced to a wide range of music, including pop, hip hop, and R&B, as long as it is in 4/4 time.
Meet your Instructor, Jessica Polzer 👋🏽
In 2015 Jessica started taking West Coast Swing (WCS) lessons after being inspired by the popular TV show, So You Think You Can Dance? She was hooked after her first lesson and has been training with local pros and WCS Champion/All Star dancers for the past ten years.
Jessica competes in the Intermediate division as both a Follower and Leader. She brings 30+ years of teaching experience and believes that good technique and creative expression are fundamentally linked. In her classes, Jessica strives to cultivate a learning environment where dancers can thrive through clear instruction and feedback, encouragement, and time for questions as well as for play and practice 🙌🏽
