Since the release of his debut album in 2017 on Albert’s Favourites, Hector Plimmer has steadily built a career bridging musical worlds and genres, from beats to jazz, broken beat, house, and techno, all the while honing a distinctive sound. His music has been championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Lauren Laverne, Mary Anne Hobbs, Huey Morgan, Don Letts and Tom Ravenscroft, playlisted by BBC 6Music and supported by Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Crack, Hyponik, Fact and Stamp The Wax.
Hector Plimmer has collaborated on eclectic projects with the likes of Ego Ella May, Andrew Ashong, The London Symphony Orchestra, Emma-Jean Thackray, alongside his long-time collaborator, the late Matt Gordon. On stage, he has performed at Glastonbury, The Great Escape, Brainchild and London’s Jazz Café and more recently performed a special AI- centred show with Ben Hayes, closing a week-long residency at the Southbank’s Purcell Rooms. The latter was rated so highly by none-other-than Grace Jones, she has requested the show be repeated at her long-postponed ‘Meltdown Festival’.
Hector’s third LP ‘Infinity Mirrors’ is due to be released on the 20th June. Featuring the likes of Laura Misch, Andrew Ashong, Julia Biel, Tawiah, Marysia Osu and Alexa Harley, the LP is representative of the ongoing process of learning about who we are and how we choose to live our lives whilst amplifying the importance of taking moments to reflect on where we have come from, where we currently are, and where we might be going. ‘Infinity Mirrors’ is the second project to be self-released by Hector Plimmer, on his imprint, Power in Comfort, following the “Duality” EP.
Written, developed and reworked over the five-year period since LP ‘Next to Nothing’ (via Albert’s Favourites), the creative process of “Infinity Mirrors” spanned over two different studios, birth, loss, the pandemic and all other seismic global shifts. “It’s been an enlightening experience, being able to revisit the tracks over time and rework them to bring them up to date based on my lived experiences”, Hector adds. “With each new revision I have learnt something else about my creative practice and brought my current self into the music, whilst maintaining where I’ve been previously”.
