Open Decks at ekō runs on the last Wednesday of every month — a monthly space for DJs of all levels to share music, learn, and connect. Hosted by Justin James, Designated Jim, and DJVODKASODA, this night is built for community, discovery, and good energy behind the decks.
ekō Open Decks — House Rules
Sign-Up Order
• Sets run in the order of the sign-up sheet.
• If you miss your slot, you move to the bottom.
Set Length
• Standard sets are 30 minutes.
• Keep transitions tight so everyone gets fair time.
Music Files & Gear
• Bring your own USB, records, or device—label your USB clearly.
• Avoid last-second downloads; come prepared.
• Respect the house setup: no unplugging or changing settings without staff approval.
Rekordbox Export Tips (Important)
• When exporting to USB, choose Device → “All Devices” for best compatibility.
• Format USBs to FAT32 or exFAT before exporting.
• After exporting, test your USB if possible—make sure playlists and cues load correctly.
• Use standard file formats: WAV, AIFF, AAC, MP3.
• Leave free space on the drive so players can index smoothly.
Levels & Mixing
• Keep volumes reasonable; redlining is not allowed.
• If you're new to the mixer, ask staff for a quick rundown before your set.
Transitions
• Be ready 2 minutes before your set.
• Keep handovers smooth—no long silences, no sudden blasts.
Respect the Space
• Drinks stay off the booth.
• No leaning on the mixer or turntables.
• Treat the equipment like it's yours.
Crowd & Community
• No track-shaming, no ego.
• Support each other—this is about growth, not competition.
Safe Content
• Keep lyrics clean and respectful; no hateful or discriminatory material.
Recording
• If you want your set recorded, ask staff before playing.
• Don’t film someone’s set without permission.
Vibe First
• Read the room.
• Play to the moment, not just your folder.
