About the event

Journey with Native Plants
Learn how to transform your yard with native plants!

About this Event

Long-time native plant enthusiast and resident of Wilmington, Patrick Bradshaw has transformed his suburban yard into a stunning biodiversity oasis. Also an educator at the Friends School of Wilmington, where native plants and environmental education are integrated into the campus and curriculum, Patrick practices what he preaches.

Included in his presentation will be his grassroots efforts to convert grassy turf areas into dynamic wildlife habitats. One step at a time, Patrick has created a space with seasonal interest and blooms throughout the year. Learn about his approach, plant selection, and basic maintenance associated with turning the yard into an ecosystem that supports local fauna with native flora. Please join us on Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:30 pm in the New Hanover County Arboretum auditorium.

Meet Patrick Bradshaw

Pratick was born and raised right here in Wilmington and has always loved plants, wildlife, and being out in nature. He received my BA in German and Master of Arts in Teaching at UNC-Chapel Hill and taught in Charlotte and Chapel Hill before moving back to Wilmington with his wife and two kids in 2015. Mr. Bradshaw currently teaches Preschool and Middle School at Friends School of Wilmington and works closely with the Environmental Education teacher to increase native plants on campus.

Patrick said he is most excited for people to learn how they too can support wildlife in their own spaces using native plants, and how every little bit helps!
