About this Event

No Other Land: A Film Screening with Evanston Interfaith Clergy

Optional facilitated follow-up discussion Wednesday, June 11th at 12:00 Noon at Evanston Public Library

Basel Adra, a young Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta, has been fighting his community’s mass expulsion by the Israeli occupation since childhood. Basel documents the gradual erasure of the villages in his region of the West Bank, as soldiers systematically destroy the homes of his friends and family. He crosses paths with Yuval, an Israeli journalist who joins his struggle, and for over half a decade they fight side by side. Their complex bond is haunted by the extreme inequality between them: Basel, living under a brutal military occupation, and Yuval, unrestricted and free. Together they search for a path towards equality and justice.

The film was made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective of four young activists as an act of creative resistance. No Other Land world-premiered at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival where it won the Panorama Audience Award for Best Documentary Film. The film has screened at major festivals around the world and been one of the most critically acclaimed documentaries of the year.

“The year’s most powerful documentary…necessary and revealing.” – New York Magazine

“Vital…frank..devastating…could open eyes and change minds.” – Variety

“Five stars…powerful…essential viewing…offers a stirring vision for what could be – Israelis and Palestinians working together in the name of justice, collaborating toward a world where both are free.” – The Guardian

“A devastating portrait…a sobering offering for this politically urgent moment.” – The Hollywood Reporter
