In partnership with UB and Micron, SUNY Erie is offering a free short course designed for students interested in STEM careers. This hands-on program introduces the core technologies used in semiconductor devices and manufacturing.
This course is intended for highly motivated juniors and seniors in high school (16+) or current college students who are interested in learning more about careers in semiconductor and manufacturing industries.
Course Overview:
Lecture Day (8 hours) – Learn the fundamentals of cleanroom procedures, processes, and equipment operations.
Lab Session (4 hours) – Gain real-world experience inside a cleanroom, working with silicon wafers and performing basic semiconductor processes like patterning, deposition, and/or etching. You'll also learn how to take precise micro- and nano-scale measurements.
This course emphasizes practical skills in cleanroom safety, equipment handling, and semiconductor manufacturing to prepare students for careers in this rapidly growing industry.
Schedule:
Lecture: Monday, July 21, 2025 | 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Lunch provided)
Lab Session: One session will be assigned on either July 22, 23, or 24
Morning: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Afternoon: 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Participants must attend the full lecture and one lab session
