In this Research and Academic Program lecture, Jeong Han Kim (Seoul National University, Korea / Futures Fellow) presents on The Eye and Mind project and research, which reimagines art appreciation for the visually impaired by developing multisensory methods beyond sight. Integrating art, cognitive science, and AI, it challenges traditional sight-based approaches by incorporating tactile, auditory, and olfactory experiences. Aligned with the Clark Art Institute’s mission, the project fosters inclusive, innovative engagement, creating accessible art experiences for both visually impaired and sighted audiences.
Jeong Han Kim is an artist exploring the intersection of art and cognitive science. He participated in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s artist-in-residence program with support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund Asian Cultural Council. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at DXARTS, University of Washington, Seattle. His work has been exhibited internationally at Infosphere (ZKM, Germany), Media City Seoul, and Whitebox (NYC). Kim holds a PhD in cognitive science from Seoul National University and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is a UNESCO expert on the Diversity of Cultural Expression (2024) and AI & Culture (2025).
