Down on the (Shellfish) Farm by Dr. Bill Walton - Free Lecture

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science has an entire program dedicated to advancing and supporting a thriving sustainable shellfish aquaculture community in Virginia and the United States. Why?
Bill Walton, Acuff Profess of Marine Science at William & Mary’s Batten School and VIMS, will talk about what shellfish aquaculture is, where and how it’s done, how its grown over the last several decades, and Virginia’s amazing success story.
He will dive into how shellfish aquaculture is creating jobs in rural coastal communities, improving our coastal environments, reinforcing cultural values – and also producing world-class oysters, clams, scallops and other shellfish. Finally, he will talk a bit about
current shellfish aquaculture research at VIMS.
