You must be available for all show dates. Show dates will be: Sep. 5 - 21
Sep. 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 at 8 p.m., and Sep. 6, 13, 14, 20, 21 at 2 p.m.
Please prepare a one-minute musical audition and bring either sheet music or an accompaniment track (bluetooth speaker will be provided). Please choose a selection that is not from this show. An accompanist will be provided. Auditioners should be dressed to move with appropriate footwear (no crocs or sandals).
Please note: Cabaret contains adult themes; auditioners under 18 will need parental permission in writing.
Callbacks will be held Tuesday, July 8, as needed (you will be informed by the director if you need to attend).
Synopsis: In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920s draw to a close, the Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. As the rest of the world rushes towards the brink of war, the Cabaret performers try their hardest to reassure the crowd that, "In here, life is beautiful."
Characters:
Emcee: The host of the Kit Kat Club, a charismatic narrator whose dark commentary often highlights the audience's ignorance of the unfolding political turmoil.
Sally Bowles: a British cabaret singer, known for her energetic performances and witty banter.
Clifford Bradshaw: A young American writer and English teacher who travels to Berlin seeking inspiration who gradually becomes aware of the political climate.
Fraulein Schneider: The landlady of the boarding house where Sally and Clifford reside, a wise and resilient character who is navigating the changing political landscape.
Herr Schultz: A Jewish fruit shop owner who falls in love with Fräulein Schneider and is at risk from the rising Nazi regime.
