The Osterhout Library, as it stands today, began as a Presbyterian Church in 1849, before being bought and turned into the library.
A prominent merchant and real estate magnate, Issac Osterhout, died in 1882 and willed a large portion of his estate to the establishment of a Free Public Library.
Mr. Melvil Dewey, inventor of the Dewey Decimal System, was hired and his first recommendation was to purchase the First Presbyterian Church.
The Osterhout Free Library opened its doors in January of 1889, being one of the first libraries in NEPA.
Come join the experienced investigators of Wyoming Valley Ghost Tours and investigate and explore the shelves and halls of the Osterhout Library, learning about this historic 125-year-old building on Friday, June 27th, 2025 @ 7:30 PM. First you will learn of the history of this location from a librarian of the establishment, before conducting your own paranormal investigation with provided equipment.
Tickets must be purchased in advance, using the ticket link on the event page, and will not be available for purchase at the event location. Space for this event is limited. Please be aware that this is an event in which you will be engaged with other individuals. All provided equipment is cleaned before and after use.

The minimum age for this event is 16 years of age with parent or legal guardian.

**This is an indoor walking event that will require the use of stairs and walking throughout the building. Please ensure that proper foot and clothing attire are worn- You are encouraged, for your safety, to NOT wear the Following Shoes: Sandals, High Heels, Open Toed Shoes or Flip Flop type sandals.**
