Qing Xu in Concert
2024 Winner of the Lynnwood Farnam Organ Competition
Join us for an inspiring evening of organ music featuring Qing Xu, the 2024 laureate of the prestigious Lynnwood Farnam Organ Competition. The concert will take place at Ascension of Our Lord Parish.
The first half of the program will showcase performances by artists from the Royal Canadian College of Organists: Maria Gajraj, Owen Spicer, and Joel Peters, titular organist of Ascension of Our Lord Parish. The second half will feature a full recital by our distinguished guest, Qing Xu.
Held every two years, the Lynnwood Farnam Organ Competition recognizes exceptional emerging talent in the world of organ music. The next competition will take place in 2026. First prize includes a $2,000 award and the opportunity to headline a concert the following year. Second prize receives $750. Proceeds from this concert help ensure the continued success and longevity of the competition.

Qing Xu is currently a doctoral student at McGill University, where she studies with Isabelle Demers. Before moving to Montreal, she completed her bachelor's and master's degrees at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, studying under Yuan Shen, one of China's leading organists.
Ms. Xu's professional career began in 2018 when she was selected for the Haarlem International Organ Festival's "Young Talent" program. Since then, she has received several international accolades, including prizes at the Concours International d'Orgue de Versailles (2018), the International M. Tariverdiev Organ Competition (2021), and the Lynnwood Farnam Organ Competition (2024). She has performed the Chinese premiere of numerous organ works and has given recitals across several cities in China.
In addition to her performance career, Ms. Xu collaborated with composer Chang Qi on Micro-carving, a piece that won the International Kaija Saariaho Organ Composition Competition and was featured at the inauguration of the Helsinki Music Centre's new organ in 2024. As a specialist in late Romantic repertoire, her scholarly articles on this topic have been published in several Chinese academic journals.

Venez passer une soirée inspirante au son de l'orgue en compagnie de Qing Xu, lauréate du prestigieux concours d'orgue Lynnwood-Farnam 2024. Le concert aura lieu à l'église Ascension of Our Lord.

Organisé tous les deux ans, le concours d'orgue Lynnwood-Farnam récompense des artistes de la relève exceptionnel.le.s dans le domaine de la musique d'orgue. La prochaine édition aura lieu en 2026. Le premier prix est doté d'une bourse de 2 000 $ et de la possibilité de se produire en concert l'année suivante. Le deuxième prix est doté d'une bourse de 750 $. Les recettes de ce concert contribuent à assurer le succès et la pérennité du concours.

Outre sa carrière d'interprète, Mme Xu a collaboré avec le compositeur Chang Qi sur « Micro-carving », une œuvre qui a remporté le Concours international de composition pour orgue Kaija-Saariaho et a été présentée lors de l'inauguration du nouvel orgue du Centre musical d'Helsinki en 2024. Spécialiste du répertoire romantique tardif, ses articles scientifiques sur ce sujet ont été publiés dans plusieurs revues universitaires chinoises.
