DAVE DERSHAM recorded “The Burn of Summer” 20 years ago in Somerville, MA. The CD received regular airtime on Umass Boston's WUMB and was selected as a finalist for Mountain Stage's “Emerging Artist” competition. “Gilding the Lilies” dropped in 2011, recorded and accompanied with the lap steel, electric guitar, percussion, and keyboards of Lloyd Thayer and Jared Fiske. The work was distributed and played internationally. Over the years, Dave Dersham has become known as a sly humorist, cultural critic, and melancholy optimist with a blend of uncanny rhythm, and muted chords. His third CD will finally arrive, sometime in 2023.
Dave Dersham is a meanderer. In his early to mid 20s, he spent a summer cooking for Dornan's chuck wagon beneath the Grand Tetons of Wyoming, taught Environmental Ed among the ponderosa pines of South Dakota's Black Hills, conducted 3 week treks with under-served youth across southern Idaho, and explored the cultures of Guatemala, Honduras and Belize.
By his early 30s, the muse pulled Dave to the confines of New England and the Cambridge, MA folk scene where he completed his first CD, "The Burn of Summer." The album enjoyed regular airtime on Folk Radio's WUMB, Emerson College's WERS, and produced a finalist selection for Mountain Stage's emerging artist competition.
Dave's second album, "Gilding the Lilies" was recorded with the assistance of Boston's unorthodox and adventurous lap-steel player, Lloyd Thayer, as well as the shrewd playing and production of Jared Fiske. The CD was released in the fall of 2011 and was distributed internationally. He is currently working on material to be released in 2017.
Currently, Dave can be found touring various pockets of New England as well as maintaining annual ventures to California and Texas. He is also "sighted"--generally on Thanksgiving weekend--with the Bigfoot Research Organization (the BRO). The BRO is a loosely arranged, crypto-musical quartet that offers both sonic truth and ecological wonder.
