Senior Readers Theater
Friday, January 23, 10 am
Studio 2, Jones Theater
The Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts is delighted to introduce a brand-new Senior Readers’ Theater Group, designed for older adults in the Valley who enjoy storytelling, creativity, and connecting with others.
The first meeting will be held on Friday, January 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Jones Theater, Studio 2.
What is Readers Theater?
Readers Theater is a form of script-based performance where participants read from scripts rather than memorizing lines. It focuses on expressive reading, character interpretation, and shared enjoyment of literature. Because no memorization or staging is required, it’s accessible, low-pressure, and ideal for anyone who simply wants to have fun using their voice and imagination.
The group will be led by Melanie Duke, drama teacher at the local high school. One of the unique strengths of this new program is its intergenerational aspect: Melanie will involve some of her drama students to assist seniors with accessibility, mobility needs, and script support. This collaboration creates a warm space where younger and older community members can learn from one another, share stories, and build connections across generations.
As the group develops, there are plans to eventually offer performances and possibly bring outreach programs to locations such as the Senior Center and other community venues.
