The Art of Persian Abri Marbled Papers

Coming up during the Harmony Arts Festival!

Learn about the ancient art and practice of paper marbling! Make designs on water to create a unique piece of marbled paper to take home. Trays and paint will be provided.

Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design that produces patterns similar to those of smooth marble or other types of stone. Marbled paper (Abrī) was once called "papers from the sky" during the Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal rule. Traditionally made by hand, it was most commonly used as a writing surface for calligraphy, but also used for book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Each print is a unique monotype.
