This walk ties in with the open church at Dode and the architecture talk at St. Benedicts in Paddlesworth. The walk retraces the journey made by William, priest of Dode, to St. Benedict’s church in Paddlesworth when Dode ceased to be used as a parish church in 1367.
This is a free RSVP event and aligns with 2 other National Heritage events:
The open day at Dode Church (12pm-3pm)
The architecture talk at St. Benedict's Church in Paddlesworth (3pm-4pm)
The circular walk will conveniently start at Holly Hill carpark where we leave at 12:30pm where your guide, Bernard will be waiting for you. From there it's a short walk to Dode church, where we assemble hope to arrive around 1:00pm. You'll have ample of time to enjoy the grounds of the Lost village of Dode and Dode Church itself. We'll aim to depart from Dode for St. Benedict's Church in Paddlesworth around 1:45pm for the actual part of William's walk. The walk will lead us through beautiful ancient woodland and farming fields with magnificent views of the Kent countryside.
We'll be arriving at St. Benedict's in Paddlesworth around 3pm, where you can join a free architecture talk about the church. Note that there are no toilet facilities available at this church.
After the talk (4pm) we'll be walking back around from Paddlesworth via the ancient Pilgrims Way to Holly Hill carpark, giving even more stunning views of the North Downs.
