LLM Hackathon for Applications in Materials Science & Chemistry

Welcome to the LLM Hackathon for Applications in Materials Science & Chemistry!

Recently Large-language models (LLMs) caught the interest of many scientists. Recent studies suggested that these models could be useful in chemistry and materials science. To explore these possibilities, we started organizing a hackathon to showcase LLM applications in materials science and chemistry back in 2023 showcasing 14 examples of LLM applications published in Digital Discovery. In 2024, 34 projects were submitted accross 7 on-sites and virtually which can be found in arXiv. This is a great opportunity to work with experts in this field to help your ideas flourish as well as get to attend tutorials on how some of the latest developments work.

This year, Purdue University will be one of the offline sites for the hackathon. Join us at Burton Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship to work with peers on tackling problems in materials science and chemistry using modern LLMs. Typically you would have be a team of 2-4 people working on solving a task of your desiring. There would be an online session with some mentors who can help you navigate some pitfalls.
