From the ancient burial grounds of the Lenape, to the graveyards of long-extinct denominations, to tiny family burial grounds, to large, modern companies, cemeteries are everywhere. But they are often a source of great confusion: records may be difficult to find, hard to parse, or nonexistent; gravestones may not be visible, and it may just be difficult figuring out where to start when searching for answers on your area’s or family’s history.
Join us for a primer and workshop on Chester County’s cemeteries and burying grounds. Using the records and resources available at the Chester County History Center, you will learn the answers to such questions as:
• How do I find where my ancestors are buried?
• What is that old burying ground?
• How do I read these records?
• Where did that old cemetery get removed to?
• Why are my ancestors buried here?
• And much, much more.
