The storytelling event is part of an 800 mile, three-week-long tour by bicycle through all six New England States, beginning and ending at Davis’s home in Tamworth, New Hampshire. Davis has taken the grassy stage at Springs Farm once before, in July of last year. This time through he’s presenting “Quixotic,” an engrossing and humorous one-man show which celebrates his long relationship with Don Quixote, and the capacity of art to impact the world. Through personal story, scenes from the novel, glimpses into the author’s life, and a snapshot from history, he connects the themes of Cervantes’s masterwork to the enduring questions as to how humans should live.
This storyteller is not the beloved Brattleboro-area legend, the local musician, storyteller, dance caller and retired music teacher. This other Andy Davis lived in Keene throughout the eighties, and went to Guatemala to do human rights work during the 1990s. It was during his time there that he got his start as a storyteller, telling comic tales by candlelight in refugee camps. He has since broadened and refined his craft and has entertained audiences from Bamako to Seattle. He lives with his wife, adult daughter, and their elderly beagle in a little home-made house in the White Mountains. Find out more about his work at www.andydavisstoryteller.com.
The suggested donation for this event is $15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Children are welcome if they can listen like adults. For more information, call Mary Wallace Collins at (617)293-8002, or email
