Courting the Light of the Beloved
A Telling of the Mystical Love Story: Layla & Majnun
***With Elan DeHaro on Persian fiddle & instrumentals***
-
In honor of the Morning Star Venus, join us for a contemporary telling of Layla & Majnun, the classic Sufi folktale popularized by Nizami, the great 12th-century Persian epic poet.
It’s the story that captured the devotional & mystical heart of the Islamic world. It greatly influenced Shakespeare and many famous poets of Eurasia. This tale is like Romeo & Juliet meets the enchanted, animist heart of the ancestral desert soul. It is a return to the Garden of Eden, to the divine power of Eros. It weds together longing, love, and grief with mystery, annihilation, and the cosmic heart breaking open. Join us for this ritual telling & offering to the Morning Star.
This one is for the iridescent beauties, for our hummingbird friends and their beloved jewel-W**d flowers, a marriage tens of millions of years in the making.
Elan DeHaro will be joining to create a magical musical soundscape that will carry us deeper into the story. His transportive style takes listeners on a voyage with evocative tones, eclectic sounds, and inspiring melodies. His music weaves together an ancient tapestry of European, Middle Eastern, and Oriental styles.
