Bill Holloran: A pioneer of Biodynamic farming in Oregon

Small production, sustainably farmed wines that represent the unique characteristics of their estate vineyards in Willamette Valley (Dundee Hills and Eola-Amity Hills).

Bill Holloran is a notable figure in Oregon's wine industry, recognized for his commitment to sustainable and biodynamic farming practices. After a successful career in the technology sector, he and his wife, Eve, relocated to the Portland area in 1999. They purchased a heritage vineyard on Worden Hill Road in Dundee and a parcel of land in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. As their first harvest approached, they converted a horse barn on their West Linn property into a winery, producing 500 cases of Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay that year.

Holloran's dedication to sustainable viticulture led him to adopt organic farming practices in 1999. By 2005, recognizing the need for a more holistic approach, he transitioned to biodynamic farming, particularly at the Le Pavillon vineyard. This shift revitalized the vineyard, enhancing soil health and grape quality.

Today, Holloran Vineyard Wines produces over 10,000 cases annually, focusing on varietals such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Tempranillo. The winery's commitment to biodynamic practices underscores its dedication to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Oregon's Willamette Valley.
