Della makes cakes, not judgment calls – those she leaves to her husband, Tim. But when Jen, the girl she helped raise, returns home to North Carolina to get married and asks Della to bake the cake—only to reveal she’s marrying another woman—Della’s world is turned upside down. As Della grapples with her own beliefs and her deep-seated love for Jen, the drama deepens in this thought-provoking and heartfelt dramedy. Written by North Carolina native Bekah Brunstetter (Tony nominated book writer of the hit musical The Notebook and writer and producer of NBC’s This is Us), The Cake is a funny and poignant look at tradition, love, and finding common ground in the face of conflict.
