Osceolas via the Trail Less Traveled

Just starting out on your 4,000-footer journey and looking for a little challenge with a big view payoff? Come join Jamie Gillon and me on this relaxed out-and-back hike to East Osceola and Osceola from the less-traveled Greeley Ponds Trail. We'll hike approximately 7 miles with 3000 feet of elevation gain at a relaxed 1-1.5 mph pace. The start will be a gentle trail through the scenic Mad River Notch, then things will get slightly more challenging up the Osceola Trail to the summit of East Osceola. The summit is viewless, but there's a lovely view north just past the summit. Next, we'll hike a mostly-moderate trail to Mt Osceola that features one very short, steep and incredibly fun scramble up "The Chimney" before reaching the open ledge with expansive views at the summit...on a clear day, you can see 41 of NH's 4,000 footers. If the weather cooperates, we will plan to have lunch on Mt Osceola before hiking back down to the trailhead.

This is a vigorous hike, so you should have some experience hiking similar distances and elevation gains during the current hiking season. Please bring your 10 essentials and at least two liters of water. Trekking poles recommended.
