Natural Dye Workshop

Discover how to work with nature's colour palette in this workshop. Explore which plants to use, and how to get a range of colours by changing the variables such as using hot or cold baths, and modifiers. Experiment with different fibres, and learn how to use a mordant. Create and take home a rainbow of homespun, naturally dyed yarn which will serve as a reminder of your experiments and results. Be inspired by the Saxon colour wheel used for Saxon designs and clothing, and by archaeological evidence from the era.
