The Mayor's Office of Caribbean Cultural Affairs (MOCCA) and the D.C.Caribbean Carnival, Inc. The 7- hours of FREE cultural exposition will be tailored to all residents and visitors of the Nation's Capital and will showcase a Kiddies Carnival, Cultural Dancers, Costumed Dancers, the pulsating rhythms of Steelband, Rumba Band, Soca and Reggae Band, Parade of Costumes and Caribbean DJ.ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
The Image Band: With a legacy spanning 47 years, The Image Band has been a cornerstone of Caribbean musical culture, celebrated across North America and the Caribbean. Recognized for their mastery of Calypso and Reggae, they've garnered accolades from prestigious institutions like the US Congress and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. From performing at presidential inaugural balls to headlining iconic festivals, The Image Band continues to captivate audiences with their vibrant and dynamic performances, embodying the essence of Caribbean musical excellence.
Pan Masters Steelband Organization: For 40 years, Pan Masters Steelband Organization has been a driving force behind the vibrant steelband music scene in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Founded by members of the Trinidad & Tobago Steelband of Washington, DC, Pan Masters has evolved into a diverse cultural ensemble, incorporating Djembe drummers and percussionists into their performances.
Diann Marshall (Flambe): As the director of productions like Paloma Mohamed's "Chupucabra," Diann Marshall brings decades of experience in theater, dance, and media to the stage. Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Marshall's passion for Caribbean culture shines through her work, whether it's performing with renowned groups like Three Canal or educating audiences about Caribbean heritage through song and dance. Under her stage name, Flambe, Marshall continues to inspire and entertain with her vibrant artistic vision.
SOY Y RUMBA BAND: Established in 1993 by the dynamic singer-songwriter Maria Isolina, Sol y Rumba stands as a beacon of Latin musical excellence in the heart of the D.C. metropolitan area. Our ensemble comprises some of the region's most talented musicians, each boasting an impressive musical pedigree. From sharing the stage with comedy legend George Lopez to serenading the grand opening of Christina Saralegui's furniture line, and the honor of performing at former President Barack Obama's inaugural ball, Sol y Rumba has woven a rich tapestry of musical experiences over the years.
SOKA TRIBE: Celebrating 10 years on Aug 15th, and named the 2020 & 2025 Best Dance Class in DC by Washington City Paper, Soka Tribe is the authority on Caribbean carnival culture, from sharing its histories and traditions, to keeping you plugged into the global carnival community, to curating paths to experience it for yourself. We introduce people to Caribbean carnival culture through a variety of pathways.
