Are you craving connection in your dances, but unsure how to go about this in a conscious, purposeful, and consent-minded way? Do you ever hear people talk about connection in Zouk, or in partner dance in general? Questions arise... what is this connection? How do you know if you are connecting? What are you connecting to? Are there different ways to connect? How do I know how much connection a partner is wanting? Are there different connection styles?
Join us as we explore these questions, and so much more on Saturday, July 5th at the Brazilian-American Cultural Center in Washington, DC. It will be a night of playful learning and of gooey social dancing. There are no ticket sales at the door, so register online today to secure your spot!
Saturday, July 5th
Craving Conscious Connection Labs: 5:30-7:30
with Amanda Grace and Charles Nkoho
In these lab-style, experiential, and activity-based workshops, we will explore connecting to your own body (5:30-6), the floor (6-6:30), the music (6:30-7), and finally, your partner (7-7:30). These labs are open-level, and knowledge of head-movement is not a prerequisite. Although the 3 hour social after the labs will be strictly Brazilian Zouk, the principles covered in the 2 hours of labs are applicable to any style of partner dance, and so all dancers are welcome. All experience levels are welcome, and no partner is needed.
Social: 7:30-10:30
We will start with a more energetic set for the first half of the night, and then slip into some gooey-trancey bliss for the second set. Sets will be purchased pre-recorded sets from world-famous Zouk DJs and will play a variety of genres
Theme: Happy Birthday USA: wear your red white and blue!
