About the event

Power Seat Functions & Under Pressure
Get ready for a powerful CPD session combining two essential clinical topics in one streamlined workshop.
Explore the functional impact of Power Seat Functions & Drive Wheel Configurations, followed by practical strategies for pressure care in our dual-topic training event for clinicians.

Session 1: Power Seat Functions & Drive Wheel Configurations
9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Endless Possibilities and Powered Mobility

Do you understand the basics of power seat functions (PSFs) and drive wheel configurations, but want to deepen your clinical reasoning and practical application?

This hands-on session will take a deep, technical dive into how different PSFs can enhance function and independence, and how drive wheel configuration affects environmental access and performance. We’ll unpack how various actuators work, their effect on wheelchair performance, and how to apply this knowledge in real-world scenarios backed by evidence-based practice.

The interactive component will allow you to test suspension systems, compare mid- and front-wheel drive bases, and complete functional tasks using different seat functions—giving you firsthand insight into how each configuration supports clinical outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
Identify two functional benefits and considerations of each power seat function
Understand how drive wheel configuration impacts environmental access
Gain insight into how different actuators affect power wheelchair performance

Session 2: Under Pressure
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Pressure injuries are largely preventable—so why are they still so common? This practical session unpacks the fundamentals of pressure injuries, how they develop, and what clinicians can do to intervene early and effectively.
We’ll cover the physiology of pressure, key risk areas on the body, staging classifications, and current evidence-based strategies for prevention and treatment. The session will also explore equipment considerations, educational strategies, and how to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to support long-term skin integrity.

Learning Objectives:
List four common areas for pressure injuries
Name the six classifications of pressure injuries
Describe three current practices for prevention or treatment
