WPS Public raku

Public Raku at the Whanganui Potters Studio
Saturday July 12th, 10am - noon
19 Taupō Quay

While you're at the markets, pop in to the potters studio & purchase a piece of bisque fired pottery. You glaze the work, and leave with us to fire in our outdoor raku kiln.

The firing process take about 45min, plenty of time to walk around the market stalls and grab yourself some breakie.
Come back to see the kiln being unloaded, once it reaches 1000 degrees!

Your work will be placed in a pile of sawdust, which ignites because of the heat from the pottery! We then smother the work with a tin. The fire burns out, when the trapped oxygen is used up, creating a 'reduction' atmosphere. This is when the irregular yet impressive raku glazes take form!

We cool the work in a bucket of water, so you can take it home!
